1. Deepen our knowledge on geographic distribution of anisakids in the Adriatic

2. to 14. project month

  • Sampling of damselfish (Chromis chromis) and picarel (Spicara spp.) from traditional Island of Korčula’s fishing ground, SE Adriatic Sea

  • Anisakid DNA isolation, amplification and sequencing

  • Population genetic structure data analysis

2. Evaluate patohistology of Anisakis spp. infection in the final host

1. to 47. project month

  • Sampling of lesions in the cetacean gastrointestinal tract (GI) caused by anisakids

  • Isolation and id of Anisakis spp. from GI lesions

  • Analysis of lessionf by PHD, IHC and TEM

3. Reveal host-parasite interactions using transcriptomic tools

14. to 37. project month

  • Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and mouse experimental infection with live Anisakis larvae

  • Sampling of sea bass and mouse GI tissue, PHD preparation and analysis

  • RNA isolation from Anisakis larvae migrating through sea bass/ mouse GI and larvae spiralised in visceral cavity after migration

  • RNA sequencing data analysis, validation by RT-PCR

4. Determine the existence of multixenobiotic resistance (MXR) mechanism in Anisakis sp.

14. to 30. project month

  • Assessing of LC50 of 5 pharmacological agents on Anisakis larvae

  • Anisakis calcein bioassay using five drugs alone or in combination with specific trasporters’ inhibitors (MK517 and Verapamil)

  • HPLC measurement of each of 5 drugs free in exposed Anisakis cells vs. control

5. Evaluate anti-Anisakis IgE seroprevalence in Croatian population at the risk

20. to 38. project month

  • Recruitment of healthy volunteers from two fishery producers, collection of blood samples, questionnaire filling

  • ELISA for determination of anti-Anisakis IgE in two sampled populations, data analysis

  • Collection of blood samples and HLA genotyping (isolation, PCR amplification, genotyping) of donor blood

  • HLA data analysis

6. Develop risk assessment frame for public health purposes

44. to 46. project month

  • Data analysis for the risk assessment frame

  • Risk analysis incorporating variables obtained from results of all project phases

7. AnGEl transparency

1. to 48. project month

  • Web site launching

  • Collection of stakeholders contacts, sending of periodical AnGEL newsletter (2x per year), updating of AnGEL website

  • Stakeholder WSs organisation

  • MESA (Monitoring, Evaluation, Steering, Action)
